Cameron Highlands, the most extensive hill station in Malaysia, took its name from William Cameron, a government surveyor who stumbled across the plateau in 1885 during a mapping expedition. It is located 60 kms off the main Kuala Lumpur/Ipoh Road amidst the clouds, 1,800 metres above sea level.
The cool, frost free climate makes Cameron Highlands a great tea producing region. Green hillsides planted with young tea plant great you as you travel along the meandering road to the towns of Ringlet, Tanah Rata and Brinchang and it is possible to see the brightly-dressed tea pickers at work in the fields. A visit to a tea factory to watch the whole process of tea production is a popular activity for visitors. |
