Hua Hin is Thailand’s oldest beach resort and the site of the charming, brightly coloured Royal Waiting Room, that can be seen from the Eastern & Oriental Express. The beaches of Hua Hin, 230 kms south of Bangkok, first came to the country’s attention when King Rama VII built Klai Kangwon, his seafront summer palace just north of what was then a small fishing village in the early 1900s. King Rama VII learned of Thailand’s first coup d’état in 1932 while playing golf at the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course. Once endorsed by the royal family, Hua Hin has remained a traditional favourite among the Thai's. Nearby is the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park (Mountain of 300 Peaks), which offers magnificent views of the coastline and freshwater lagoons. |
