23 October 2006

This exclusive offer is available until 31 December 2006, for guests booking a Western (3 nights), Classic (4 nights) or one of the longer Grand West Highland (5 nights) or Grand North Western (7 nights) all-inclusive itineraries.  The complimentary bed and breakfast stay can be taken pre or post The Royal Scotsman journey, which departs from Edinburgh’s Waverley Station.

Those looking for the ultimate Royal Scotsman experience need look no further than its Grand North Western itinerary.  This week long journey offers the opportunity to savour Scotland to the full. The train takes in the dramatic Eastern coastline, travels through the Highlands visiting Plockton, the Isle of Skye and Inverness before heading west, along the magnificently scenic West Highland Line to Fort William and Mallaig. Excursions include a private ceilidh at Strathisla distillery, a personal tour by the Lady Laird of Ballindalloch of her house and grounds and a visit to the spectacular gothic house of Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute.  The all-inclusive price is £4,980 per person.

Alternatively the 1 night ‘Wee Dram’ (£870), 2 nights ‘Highland (£1,680) or 3 nights ‘Western’ (£2,440) all offer a shorter, but just as memorable taste of true Scottish hospitality.

The 2007 season runs from April 27 to Oct 22 and all itineraries start and end at Edinburgh Waverley Station with prices per person and fully inclusive of all meals, drinks on board and off train tours.

The Royal Scotsman is also proud to announce that yet again it has been awarded the highest possible grading within VisitScotland’s prestigious Quality Assurance Scheme, which identifies high quality tourist businesses within Scotland.

Commenting on the achievement Chief Executive of VisitScotland Philip Riddle said: “I would like to congratulate The Royal Scotsman on achieving this five star grading, signifying that it operates at an exemplary level in terms of customer care, whether it be from the welcome given to guests as they arrive, through to presentation and service.”

Notes to Editors
Accommodating just 36 guests the atmosphere on board The Royal Scotsman is reminiscent of a private country house party. The changing landscapes can be admired from the lounge or open veranda of the trains Observation Car, traditional Scottish fare enjoyed in one of the two dining cars or guests can simply unwind in their en-suite State Cabin, beautifully fitted out in rich woods and inlaid marquetry.

In November 2004 the operators of The Royal Scotsman, Great Scottish & Western Railway Company, entered into a 50% joint ownership agreement with Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. and The Royal Scotsman became a wonderful addition to this prestigious groups’ portfolio of luxury hotel, train and cruise experiences.
