ORIENT-EXPRESS LAUNCH A HOT NEW LONDON NIGHT OUT!

10 May 2004

This May, the vintage British Pullman carriages of the Orient-Express are set to become London’s hottest and most exclusive new party venue with the launch of Orient-Express ‘The Dinner’.

‘The Dinner’ is a series of glamorous new evening trips that will whisk guests through the English countryside whilst enjoying champagne cocktails and fine dining.  The usual restaurant car format in some of the carriages will be reconfigured for these special trips to offer a number of lounge cars, where guests can mingle and enjoy a drink before and after dinner, so adding to the party atmosphere.

The opulent art deco surroundings of the original Pullman carriages, all built in the 1920s and 30s, evoke an atmosphere of retro glamour, giving guests the ideal excuse to dress to impress.

Board the British Pullman at London Victoria and meet friends for cocktails and canapés in the lounge car, before sitting down in your designated restaurant car to enjoy an impressive five course ‘tasting’ menu. Uniformed stewards will serve a variety of dishes featuring interesting culinary combinations, all complemented by the sommelier’s choice of fine wines.

Prepared by Orient-Express’ expert chefs, dishes will include: trilogy of duck featuring terrine of foie gras with Gewurztraminer Jelly, smoked breast of duck on a plum and apricot compote and confit of duck served on a bed of braised red cabbage; a fish duo of filet of halibut served with braised fennel and lobster sauce and marinated scallops on a bed of soba noodles; and a tempting trio of delicious deserts, all designed to stimulate both the appetite and the taste buds.

“We want to put the glamour back into a night out in London and offer stylish young people the ultimate in social extravagance”, said Nick Varian chief executive of Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.  “Numbers will be restricted to ensure exclusivity and the contemporary new ‘tasting’ menu and smooth live jazz played in the lounge cars, will give the whole experience a relaxed ambiance.”

Orient-Express ‘The Dinner’ departs London Victoria at 1930 and returns at 2230 in time for those who want to continue partying to hit one of the capital’s exclusive night spots. The price is £250 per person. There are five scheduled departures: 26 May, 8 July, 9 September, 21 October and 18 November 2004.
