ORIENT-EXPRESS LAUNCHES ITS 2006 ‘JOURNEYS OF DISTINCTION’ BROCHURE

Holiday itineraries to the grand European cities of Venice, Budapest, Prague, Vienna, Rome, Paris and Istanbul are all available travelling on board the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express (VSOE) with prices starting from £830 per person for the 2 night ‘Romance of Paris’ tour (page 17). 

NEW 6 night signature package ‘Venetian Celebration’ is also highlighted which includes one night at The Dorchester, London with private check-in and taxi transfer the next morning to London Victoria station, an overnight journey to Venice on board the VSOE followed by 4 nights at Hotel Cipriani in a stunning lagoon view room, before flying back to the UK BA Club Class.  

This package also includes a morning walking tour and afternoon motor boat tour of Venice with a private guide as well as a final dinner at CIP’s Club, the Cipriani’s latest restaurant offering. It costs from £4,385 per person (page 11). 

The NEW ‘Italian Variations’ 5 night package combines a journey from London to Venice on the VSOE with visits to two beautiful Italian cities Venice and Florence, staying at the Hotel Cipriani in Venice and the stunning Villa San Michele perched on the hillside overlooking Florence. It costs from £2,880 per person (page 15). 

In Asia a NEW 3 night southbound itinerary aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express (E&OE) is also featured for the first time. This enhanced southbound route between Bangkok and Singapore will now depart on Sunday evening and arrive into Singapore on Wednesday morning and take in the famous wooden trestle viaduct at Tham Kasae, north of Kanchanaburi, one of Thailand’s most scenic stretches of railway. 

The new timetable will also give guests a more convenient evening arrival/departure time into Kuala Lumpur for those wishing to enjoy the superb shopping opportunities that the Malaysian capital has to offer. Prices start from £990 per person (page 38). The northbound route from Singapore to Bangkok will continue as a 2 night journey following the existing itinerary. 

The Thai Explorer tour, a 2 night round trip between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, will increase from 7 to 11 departures for 2006 due to the popularity of this recent addition to the E&OE schedule. 

Three NEW Indo-China extension packages are also featured for 2006 which can be taken pre or post a journey on board the Eastern & Oriental Express or the Road To Mandalay river cruise ship in Myanmar (Burma).  

Travel between Thailand and Laos on an adventurous Mekong River cruise which will allow you to enjoy the famous Golden Triangle with a stay at the Anantara Resort at Chiang Rai followed by two days cruising to Luang Prabang with an overnight stop en-route at the Luang Say Lodge at Pakbeng, located right on the banks of the Mekong River. It costs from £350 per person (page 50).  

Alternatively explore the ancient temples and breathtaking scenery of Luang Prabang in Laos or Ankor Wat in Cambodia with a 2 night stay at the Pansea Orient-Express properties La Résidence Phou Vao or La Résidence d’Angkor. Prices from £430 per person. 

NEWLY  enhanced 9 nights cruise and stay package in Burma combines a 7 night cruise along the Ayeyarwady River on board Road To Mandalay with 2 nights at The Governor’s Residence, Yangon. Guests who choose to discover for themselves this beautiful and intriguing country will now be able to visit the monasteries of Mount Popa, the ancient capital of Ava and the colonial hill station of Maymyo, set high in the Shan mountains. This package is £1,650 per person (page 46). 

In Peru the 11 nights ‘Andean Highlights’ package is a cultural pilgrimage through this spectacular land. Visit Lima, Cuzco, Machu Picchu and Puno which lies on the shores of Lake Titicaca, travelling in part on board the ‘Hiram Bingham’ and the ‘Andean Explorer’ trains. It costs £3,665 per person (page 57).
