Budapest

Budapest is the economic, cultural and official capital of Hungary. Situated on a bend in the Danube river, its foundations date back to Roman times and subsequently it has been tussled over by pagans, Muslims and Christians in numerous guises.

Easily accessible by foot, it is a city of spacious boulevards and leafy parks with pretty bridges connecting Buda with Pest.

Budapest has a famous Opera House, several theatres, a buzzing nightlife and some delightfully unusual one-off shops, which contribute to the quirkiness of the Magyar capital.
