October - Venice Marathon

Starting in Piazza Marconi in Stra - a small town outside of Venice - the 6,000 enthusiastic runners create a thrilling atmosphere as they run through the narrow streets of Venice to finish on the Riva dei Sette Martiri near St Mark's Square.

The Marathon was first run in Venice in 1986, and the unique nature of hosting such an event in the magnificent setting of Venice has made it a very popular spectacle.

The course takes the competitors past some of Venice's most famous landmarks and over 15 bridges.
