The World Famous Delbard Roses with Arnaud Delbard - Thursday 3rd JulyThe History of Delbard Nursery began in 1935 with George Delbard on his family farm at Malicorne in the South of France. He began with fruit trees and, in 1946 released his book ‘Beautiful Fruits of France’. It was groundbreaking in its photography and scope. From there he turned his attention to his second love, roses.
George Delbard began breeding roses in 1954 and, after 10 years, began to release such classic roses as Grand Siecle delegran, Centenaire de Lourdes Rouge delfloro, Madame Delbard deladel (which worldwide has sold more than any other rose), and Chartreuse de Parme delviola (which has won awards for being the most fragrant rose in Europe). In 2005, Raymond Blanc too, had the honour of a rose being named after him. |
In the hands of George’s son Henri, and now his son Arnaud, the Delbard Nursery continues to thrive. The little family farm at Malicorne now covers 600 hectares and breeds some 40,000 rose seedlings a year. Fruit trees are still a major part of the farm, as are its cut rose greenhouses in Central America.
Delbard roses are repeat flowering and with their unique qualities of form, colour, shape and size, the flowers in all their stages of development are quite exceptional.
After this fascinating talk you will tour Le Manoir's gardens before a Ruinart Champagne reception and a delicious 3-course lunch with accompanying wines. Thursday 3rd July 2008
