Create Your Own Masterpiece

Unleash your inner artist with help from sculptor Juan Waelder at La Residencia, Mallorca.
The Mallorcan village of Deià has long been one of the Mediterranean's most delightful artists' colonies. And La Residencia, the tranquil hotel at its heart, has always been the ultimate spot to set up an easel and be inspired by its beauty.

Now, La Residencia's association with some of Spain's leading painters has been extended: the hotel boasts a Sculptor in Residence, Juan Waelder, who leads a variety of activities, from clay modelling to lino-cuts.

Not only is Chilean-born Juan available to offer tuition, but he is designing a collection of exclusive sculptures for the property. These include a special mural in homage to the poet Robert Graves, in which guests are invited to participate under his guiding hand.

In addition to Mallorca, where he has his own gallery, Juan's works have been exhibited in North and Central America. A knowledgeable teacher, he welcomes students of all ages and standards to attend his classes. As he says: "Art is more feeling than knowledge." Or just drop by for a chat at his atmospheric studio adjacent to the hotel's on-site Tafona Art Gallery, where works by over 85 regional artists are displayed.

Juan works alongside Alan Hydes, La Residencia's Artist in Residence, who is also available for group and private lessons.
