Your Journey | Day One: London - York - Edinburgh
Let the Grand Tour begin in true Orient-Express style, with a champagne brunch served as you journey north to York and visit the splendid stately home of Castle Howard with afternoon tea in the Grecian Halls. Should you wish to explore York further there is also an optional sightseeing tour of the city for your enjoyment.
Enjoy a delicious dinner as the fine views of Northumberland gently pass, before arriving in Edinburgh for a three night stay.
Hotel: Caledonian Hilton, Edinburgh
This five star hotel is conveniently situated in the very heart of the city, overlooking the impressive castle.
Day Two: Edinburgh
After breakfast, a guided tour of Edinburgh's brooding medieval Old Town and the classical elegance of the Georgian New Town. Lunch is at leisure on our account with free time after to explore Edinburgh.
The evening is spent aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia, once the ocean-going home of Her Majesty The Queen and host to many prestigious state and official occasions. You are invited to dine within the magnificently appointed State Apartments.
Day Three: Scotland
A light lunch is served amid splendid views of lochs, glens, mountains and moors as the Northern Belle journeys to Oban. Sail to the Isle of Mull and explore the beautifully preserved 13th century Duart Castle and its grounds on a short tour, which culminates in a display of falconry.
Sample Scottish whisky at a local distillery then partake in a gourmet Scottish dinner on board the return to Edinburgh.
Day Four: Edinburgh - Chester
After breakfast the Northern Belle travels through the Scottish Borders before crossing back into England. Enjoy lunch as the magnificent scenery of the Lake District passes by before arriving at the walled city of Chester for a three night stay. Chester is the historic gem of North-West England. Soak up the atmosphere of this ancient town on a guided walking tour before a banquet dinner.
Hotel: Chester Grosvenor This 80 roomed hotel is set beside Chester's Roman walls. On its doorstep are the city's famous 'Rows', the medieval streets that house a wealth of specialist shops.
Day Five: Wales
Brunch as you travel into Wales - the land of song - and through the breathtaking scenery of the Vale of Conwy and to the fascinating Italianate 'village' of Portmeirion, famous location of the cult 60s TV show 'The Prisoner'. Experience a demonstration of sheep-dog trials by one of the Welsh national champions before exploring this fascinating village.
Afternoon tea and dinner on board before arriving back in Chester for a choral recital in the magnificent Chester Cathedral.
Day Six: Bath
After breakfast relax before boarding the Northern Belle for a light lunch before arriving at the ancient Roman spa town of Bath.
After a guided tour of Britain's best preserved Georgian city, including the splendid Abbey and Georgian terraces, culminating in a visit to the fascinating Roman Baths, before returning to Chester enjoying dinner on board.
Day Seven: Chester - London
Breakfast at your hotel before joining the Northern Belle for the last
time.
Take lunch on board as the train journeys through the 'Black Country', so named as the area was transformed by the industrial revolution of the 19th century. Rural Oxfordshire follows with its gentle rolling hills and pretty sandstone villages before arriving back at the nation's capital city, London. |
