Itinerary
Tuesday - Wednesday:
Two nights Singapore with a Courtyard Suite at the Raffles Hotel or Deluxe room at Mandarin Oriental. This city is full of energy and grand historical echoes, a true crossroads of Chinese, Indian and Western culture. There is much to see and do - beautiful botanical gardens, museums, galleries and, of course, shopping, which is almost a national pastime..
(Breakfast included).
Thursday: Eastern & Oriental Express
Depart Singapore in the morning, enjoying the passing scenery as the train crosses the Straits of Johor. Lunch is served in one of the opulent dining cars. Dress for the evening, and enjoy listening to the resident pianist in the bar car before dinner. At Kuala Lumpur, where the train stops for a short while, you may disembark for a stroll to admire the Moorish-style station.
(Lunch, dinner and overnight on board).
Friday: Eastern & Oriental Express
Breakfast in your compartment before an arrival in Butterworth late morning. Cross by coach on the local ferry to Penang Island. Your visit includes a trip to Chulia Street wet market for a walking tour, and a trishaw ride. Return to the train for lunch and relax with a visit to the observation car, before dinner and a final night on board.
(Lunch, dinner and overnight on board).
Saturday: Bangkok
Saturday arrive at the River Kwai Bridge station, where you disembark for a cruise on the river on board a local raft. During the cruise a local historian provides a brief overview of the history of the Thailand-Burma railway and the bridge. Disembark for a visit to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre and, for those who wish, the Don-Rak War cemetery. Rejoin the train for lunch, arriving in Bangkok in the afternoon when you then transfer to your chosen hotel for a two night stay.
(Breakfast and lunch included).
Sunday: Bangkok
Sunday morning includes a private city and temples tour.
Monday - Wednesday: Siem Reap
Flight to Siem Reap. Stay for three nights at La Résidence d’Angkor in a pool view room. Two full days of private sightseeing are arranged, which we suggest includes Angkor Thom, Baphuon, Phimeanakas and the Terrace of the Elephants, Ta Prohm and the magnificent complex of Angkor Wat.
(Full board included, one meal per day may be taken outside the hotel if preferred).
Thursday: Bangkok
Return flight to Bangkok.
