HOTEL RITZ MADRID CELEBRATES THE NEW PRADO EXTENSION

15 November 2007

As part of the Hotel Ritz Madrid package, guests will have the opportunity to visit the new Prado extension, which has increased the size of the museum by an enormous 50%.  The project, which is part of an ongoing expansion plan at the Museo del Prado, has also restored a number of spaces including Sala de las Musas and the Vestibule.

As part of its inaugural programme marking the opening of the new extension, the Museo del Prado is presenting the exhibition Velázquez’ Fables. The exhibition brings together 27 works by the artist in addition to 24 by 17 other artists with the aim of revealing the context in which the artist executed some of his most important paintings.

The Art Programme includes two nights in a Classic Room at Hotel Ritz Madrid, private limousine airport transfers, breakfast, a bottle of Cava on arrival and entrance to the Museo del Prado, Thyssen Museum and Centro de Arte Reina Sofia.  A delicious Ritz afternoon tea is also included and one three-course dinner at the hotel’s Goya Restaurant.  The package starts from 400 Euros (approx. £278)* per person per package.

One of the original grand luxury hotels of Europe, Hotel Ritz Madrid was inspired by the desire of King Alfonso XIII to build a luxe hotel to rival the Ritz in Paris and designed and built under the personal supervision of legendary hotelier Cesar Ritz.  Opened in 1910, it combined history and luxury with modern facilities and is a stellar example of the Belle Époque era. All 167 rooms have air conditioning, marble bathrooms, handmade carpets, embroidered linen sheets and stunning views of the Prado National Museum or gardens.
