THE ROYAL SCOTSMAN UNVEILS ITS 2006 SCHEDULE OF STYLISH RAIL JOURNEYS THROUGH SCOTLAND

05 December 2005

A journey aboard The Royal Scotsman train is the highlight of any trip to Scotland. The new 2006 brochure showcases a programme of stylish all-inclusive short breaks from May 2 to October 28, each exploring the very best of Scotland’s magnificent scenery.

And it’s not just the scenery which proves unbeatable. As Scotland is home to some of the world’s best events, consider a journey aboard The Royal Scotsman before or after a visit to the Royal Highland Show in June, Edinburgh Festival or Military Tattoo in August or golfing tournaments like the Scottish Open in July or the Dunhill Links Championship in September.

The relaxed atmosphere and luxurious surroundings of the Edwardian style carriages take guests back to an age when travellers took their time to enjoy life and when service was unlimited in quality and quantity.

For a quintessentially Scottish experience the 4 night ‘Classic’ itinerary is a reminder that there is no need to travel across the world to find spectacular scenery, cultural inspiration and moments of tranquillity. The train takes in Scotland’s dramatic Eastern coastline rolling through Fife, skirting Dundee and Elgin before heading west through the Highlands to the picture book village of Plockton and onto Kyle of Lochalsh, where the beautiful Isle of Skye shimmers in the distance.

Take a boat trip to spot wild seals, wander through Highland Estates, spend the morning fishing and enjoy a traditional ceilidh. The train returns to Edinburgh via Eileen Donan Castle and Glamis, home of the late HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.  The all inclusive price is £2,990 per person.

Alternatively the 1 night ‘Wee Dram’ (£840), 2 night ‘Highland’ (£1,630) or 3 night ‘Western’ (£2,360) itineraries all also offer a taste of true Scottish hospitality and the land’s rich heritage.

For those wanting to extend their trip further, longer five and seven night itineraries are offered combining the Highland and Western routes (5 night Grand West Highland) and the Western & Classic routes (Grand North Western) available on certain dates throughout the season.  These itineraries cost £3,590 and £4,840 respectively.

All itineraries start and end at Edinburgh Waverley Station and prices are fully inclusive and per person.

Accommodating just 36 guests the atmosphere on board The Royal Scotsman is reminiscent of a private country house party. The changing landscapes can be admired from the lounge or open veranda of the train’s Observation Car, traditional Scottish fare enjoyed in one of the two dining cars or guests can simply unwind in their en-suite State Cabin, beautifully fitted out in rich woods and inlaid marquetry.
