Just beyond the open-air reception palapa with its inlaid stonework and Bertrand Castelli painting, is a freshwater swimming pool with a stone fountain nestled amid palm trees and flowering plants.
From the pool area guests are led through a passageway to another building, with overstuffed upholstered chairs and curving staircases that lead to several guestrooms. This is also the setting for the restaurant with its grand piano, mahogany bar and adjacent lounge with pool table.
An observation tower, complete with domed meditation room and inspiring vistas of the sea, affords a unique setting where guests can relax, dine privately or gaze out onto the ocean. An immediate sense of tranquillity prevails, transporting visitors to another world where pressures fade, muscles relax and cares dissolve.
A labyrinth of paths bordered with clipped hedges and terracotta pots leads guests beneath lush palms, with an abundance of jungle flowers in every color – aquamarine, orange, deep blue, purple. Luminous red trees shelter brilliantly colored butterflies and exotic green parrots.
The Palapa Cultural is a perfect alternative place to relax being open 24 hours a day. It stocks a wide selection of books and magazines and offers complimentary internet access, as well as a fine art collection of books on Mayan culture, Mexican birds and haciendas. El Tambor is also open 24 hours a day and has a TV with a selection of movies.
The boutique is another alternative to visit carrying some unique lines of clothing, handmade jewelry, pottery and glass, while also containing a selection of original oil paintings. It also provides everyday items such as sun cream, cameras, and sunglasses. Open 9 am to 6 pm daily. | | |
