Alouette on the Canal du Midi
Newly refurbished to the highest standards, the Alouette is the only luxury barge in the Afloat in France fleet that can navigate the narrow locks on the Canal du Midi. After boarding the Alouette in Béziers, your journey will start with a visit to the town of Pézenas, where Louis XV held court in summer. You will also explore Oppidum d'Ensérune, an important archaeological site. As you cruise along the Canal du Midi, you will stop at the lively Mediterranean city of Narbonne, visit the 11th century Cistercian Abbey of Fontfroide, the historic Cathar village of Minerve, the vineyards around Peyriac Minervois and end with a tour of Europe's largest medieval fortress, La Cité de Carcassonne.
