February - Venice Carnival
Each year in February the city comes alive with many thousands of party-goers, wearing elaborate masks and costumes of the most spectacular colours and designs, attending glittering traditional masked balls, theatrical performances and exclusive private parties.

May - Festa Della Sensa
Each May the city celebrates the day of the marriage between Venice and the sea, when the Doge would ride out in his ship, the "Bucintoro", and toss a ring of gold into the waters off the Lido.

Each May, the Vogalonga rowing competition is a major event as the motorboats of the lagoon give way to a variety of rowing boats as they participate in this marathon race of 30 km.

July 19th - Redentore
On July 19th, the 'Redentore' unites Venice, both emotionally and physically, with a bridge across the Giudecca canal. This festivity began in the 16th century as a thanksgiving to God for his intervention to halt the plague.
