At Savute Elephant Camp, located in the world-renowned desert land of the Chobe National Park, the newly decorated ultra luxurious tents are sleek and modern. In keeping with the blackened trees and arid landscapes, sandy pastels and rugged textures contrast with dark stained wood bedposts and chairs. Ebony and ivory tones in striped cotton weave mats combine with knobbly coffee weaves and sleek mocha mosquito nets around the beds. Tan leather contrasts with shiny chrome lamps to spark up the rooms beautifully. Cushion accents include comb- patterned fabrics, organic designs and zig zags in cream and black. On the wooden verandas overlooking the elephant watering holes below, the furniture is simple and stark using modern line wicker to complete the modern sophisticated African feel. Private outdoor showers allow guests to commune intimately with nature, with animals passing by and the infinite African sky overhead.
Deep in the Okavango Delta lies the water wonderland surrounding Orient-Express Safaris’ Eagle Island Camp sporting a freshly decorated main lounge area with its natural coloured textured fabrics and block-weave patterns. A dark gleaming refectory table is packed with old reference books and pictures and a bridge table looks inviting with a beautiful tall reading lamp beside it. Extra special touches include brass tables and tall barley twist lamps.
Eagle Island’s romantic Fish Eagle Bar (voted by the New York Times as one of the most romantic bars in the world) has been decorated in the subtle colours of the surrounding lagoon with its soft reeds and beautiful water lilies. A restful and calm space, with its twinkling table lights and inviting cushions, it is one of the world’s most remarkable places to witness nature’s most perfect sunset.
Each of the three camps is located in a completely different ecosystem within Northern Botswana, offering visitors an awe-inspiring variety of wildlife experiences. Travel between the camps is arranged using the camps light aircrafts. Khwai River Lodge is the only lodge situated in the eastern region of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, regarded by many as one of the best year round game-viewing areas in Botswana. Savute Elephant Camp is in the heart of the Chobe National Park, often referred to as the elephant capital of the world. Eagle Island Camp is hidden from the world, deep within Botswana’s Okavango Delta, surrounded by illala palms and offering exceptional mammal and birdlife sightings. A flip over the Okavango by helicopter is a must-do experience.
