 | Eagle Island Camp launches the ultimate African fishing experience
01 June 2007
Recently voted “Botswana’s Leading Safari” at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2007, Eagle Island Camp is delighted and privileged to now offer its guests, a dedicated fishing experience in addition to its regular activities such as helicopter excursions, walking and boating safaris in the surrounding channels and islands.
Situated deep within the Botswana's Okavango Delta, on the pristine island of Xaxaba, the tented Eagle Island Camp overlooks a lagoon fed by tranquil waterways. Known for its exceptionally high quality wildlife viewing and prolific birdlife, the Delta also plays host to a variety of fresh-water fish species such as: Bream (Tilapia), Fresh Water African Pike, Catfish and Silver Tooth Catfish which make for excellent sporting opportunities on the camp’s fully-escorted “catch and release” fishing excursions to the Bora Channel.
Basic rods and reels are available in camp, but for the more serious it is recommended to bring ones own equipment which should include mainly light tackle, with mepps spinners (No 3), and small FZ spoons (8grms), as well as spinning tackle. The excursions can either be for the full day or half a day and are limited to two people. One of only a handful of camps who offer fishing, Eagle Island now represents the ultimate in African fishing experiences. Available from May to October (in keeping with the fishing season) and include private use of a boat and fishing guide as well as personalised refreshments.
