From 18 to 23 August, the Grand Hotel Europe will host daily performances by Germany’s Rulfingen musical kapelle — a wind orchestra comprising more than 60 musicians that plays marches, polkas and waltzes. The culmination of the orchestra’s tour will be a charity concert on Arts Square for teenagers being supported by the Grand Hotel Europe’s charity foundation for helping children. Locals and visitors to the city will also be among the audience members.
The Rulfingen musical kapelle from the city of Mengen in Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, was founded in 1923. The orchestra is comprised of 73 musicians of both genders and all ages, and a youth reserve orchestra of 25 young people who are currently studying music is preparing to join the permanent members of the orchestra. In 1980, concert uniforms were designed especially for the ensemble — black trousers, a red jacket and a hat with a feather for men, and a black skirt with a red bodice and jacket for women.
For the last 20 years, the Rulfingen musical kapelle has toured different European countries and German regions. In 1995, the ensemble went on a two-week tour to the U.S., and in 2002 it took part in an international orchestra convention on the Italian Riviera. But the wind orchestra’s biggest pride is its Easter concerts, which it gives every two years in Germany.
