The Orient-Express has inspired countless books and films, none more celebrated than Murder on the Orient-Express.
Agatha Christie was a regular passenger and the famous book was directly inspired by a real-life event, when, en route from Istanbul, the train was trapped in Turkey for six days in deep snow. On another occasion, the author herself was stuck on board for 24 hours due to floods.
Other books and films that feature the Orient Express include Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes, the James Bond thriller From Russia with Love and Graham Greene’s classic Stamboul Train.
Celebrities are often filmed aboard the train, most recently the actor whose name is now synonymous with Hercule Poirot. |
